Contact Development Corporation, Baker & McKenzie and other resort experts to offer
insight on investing and developing in booming Mexico resort sector this December 5-7
in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA, October 7, 2005 - Real estate investors and developers interested in
learning about opportunities for resort development in Mexico will want to mark their
calendars to attend, "Resort Development in Mexico: Opportunities for Foreign
Investment and Development", a three-day conference being held in San Diego this
December 5-7 at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort.
The conference is being presented by Baker & McKenzie, the nation's largest law firm,
and Contact Development Corporation, a specialist in resort development in Mexico.
The two organizers have attracted a "who's who" of resort specialists to speak at the
conference, all of whom are currently involved in developing resort projects in Mexico,
including hotels, fractional/timeshare properties, golf clubs, residential resorts and mixed-
use projects.
According to Jose M. Larroque, Partner, Baker & McKenzie, "Foreign investment and
resort development in Mexico's touristic/resort real estate industry is booming. In the last
15 years, annual tourism in Mexico has grown from 4 million visitors to more than 20
million visitors. Moreover, for the relatively short time period from 1999-2004, foreign
investment into Mexico's tourism industry has totaled approximately US$3.1 billion
dollars and continues to trend upward."
The organizers expect that, by attending this seminar, attendees will walk away with the
most reliable information and resources available to conceive, invest in and execute
resort development projects in Mexico. Attendees will also make numerous invaluable
contacts to assist them throughout the process.
"The time for a conference that specifically addresses resort development in Mexico
"targeting" the American development and financial communities is overdue," says
David G. Ellsworth, Chairman and CEO of Contact Development Corporation. "There are significant opportunities in Mexico for American developers, financial institutions
and investors and for service providers to the industry."
Ellsworth adds that, "Attending this conference will provide a sound foundation for
assessing where those opportunities are and how to bring resort concepts to market
efficiently. Our speaker roster is loaded top to bottom with experts who are coming
specifically to share their experiences and help attendees realize their Mexican
investment and development ambitions."
Sessions to be presented include:
- Resort Development in Mexico 101: An Overview for Beginners
- Mexico Resort/Hospitality Industry Review
- The Anatomy of the Mexican Resort Development Deal
- Legal Aspects of Resort Development in Mexico
- Financing for Mexican Resort Developments
- Cross-Border Marketing & Sales of a Resort's Residential Components
- Mexican Resort Development and Investment Trends
- The Future: Where Do We Go From Here?
Two special keynote sessions will also be offered as part of the conference program:
"Mexico: Land of Opportunity, a Political Perspective", presented by Ambassador Jeffrey
Davidow, former U.S. Ambassador to Mexico and current President, Institute of the
Americas. Davidow is also author of "The Bear and the Porcupine".
"Mexico: Land of Opportunity, a Real Estate Perspective", presented by John McCarthy,
Director General of Fonatur, the official real estate development and finance agency of
the Mexican government.
The organizers suggest that this conference will be of greatest benefit to those in the
American development and financial communities as well as real estate service providers
to those industries who are already participating in Mexico's resort development industry
or who are seriously considering taking advantage of these expanding opportunities,
including: Resort developers, Hotel developers and operators, Timeshare developers and
operators, Master-planned community developers, Real estate investors, Residential
builders, Commercial builders, Foreign capital investors, Debt lenders, Architects,
Landplanners & landscape architects, Golf course designers and construction firms, Real
estate consultants and Real estate attorneys.
The conference will be held December 5-7, 2005 at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort
in Coronado, CA, just west of San Diego. Complete information, including event
registration, is available at www.mexicoresortdevelopment.com.
